Insurance Requirement
VanderCook has partnered with University Health Plans and Aetna Student Health to offer the Illinois Institute of Technology 2023/2024 Student Health Insurance Plan to its students. All students are required to have health insurance while attending VanderCook. Domestic students with comparable health coverage must submit a waiver by the September 22nd deadline if they do not want to remain enrolled in IL Tech’s plan.
All international students at VanderCook are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and do not need to take action. International students are not able to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan.

Plan Highlights
The 2023-24 Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is insured by Aetna Student Health. The plan is ACA compliant and includes access to Aetna’s national network of PPO providers. Students do not have to select a primary care physician, and referrals are not required. Benefit information and links to your online ID card and claims portal can be found on the left side of this page. IIT has partnered with University Health Plans to administer the plan and help with waiver, enrollment, or benefit related questions. Waiver Process
Students covered by a comprehensive health insurance plan that meets the waiver requirements can opt out of the SHIP by completing the Annual waiver form by the deadline of September 15, 2022. Before waiving, compare the cost, coverage, and benefits of the SHIP to your existing plan. Failure to complete the waiver will result in a student being enrolled and responsible for the Health Insurance Fee.
