Enrollment Process

Bryant University requires all students to be enrolled in a health insurance plan while attending the University. While the majority of Bryant students are covered by a health insurance plan, some insurance plans have barriers to accessing care (such as high deductibles, limited coverage for services received outside of the health plan's service area, or not having participating providers in the Smithfield, Rhode Island area). Please make sure that any alternative coverage includes the student's college years. Eligible dometic students who want to purchase and be enrolled in the Bryant University Student Health Insurance Plan, must complete the enrollment form on the left side of this page by the above deadline, as you will not be automatically enrolled. Eligibility is confirmed by the University prior to enrollment being processed. International students are automatically charged and enrolled; no action is required.  Spring enrollment is available to NEW spring students or newly eligible students only.

Reminder for domestic student athletes: While Bryant maintains a separate Intercollegiate Sports Accident Policy, it is an excess policy, and students are required to have primary coverage.

Waiver Process

Bryant University requires all international students registered for 1+ credit hours to be insured with a health insurance plan that is ACA (Affordable Care Act) compliant, filed, and approved in the United States. Some examples of insurance companies that do not meet the waiver requirements and will not be approved are GBG Insurance, HDL Global Specialty, ISO, PGH (United), PSI, Student Medicover, and Tata AIG. Most international students will not be able to opt-out of the Bryant student health insurance plan as plans marketed solely to international students are not filed and approved in the United States, have limited benefits, provider networks and/or coverage periods that do not comply with the Bryant insurance requirements. If your plan meets all of the by the waiver requirements you may waive coverage by the deadline to be removed from the student health insurance plan. You can access the on-line waiver form by selecting the “Waiver Form” on the left of the page. Once you complete the health insurance waiver and submit it online, the charge will be removed from your Bryant student account if the alternative insurance meets the waiver requirements. Failure to complete the waiver will result in a student being enrolled and responsible for the student health insurance charge.

To be eligible to waive, the health insurance must meet the below criteria:

  • Plan is currently active and provides coverage for the entire academic year while a registered student.
  • Plan provides comprehensive coverage in the Bryant campus area (access to doctors, specialists, hospitals, labs, pharmacies, and behavioral health without restriction or limitations). Please note, out of state Medicaid and many HMO or EPO plans do not provide comprehensive out-of-area coverage. Urgent or Emergency only coverage does not satisfy this requirement.
  • The plan offers unlimited coverage with no maximum dollar limit.
  • Plan covers pre-existing conditions.
  • Plan is ACA (Affordable Car Act) compliant and filed and approved in the United States.

Reminder for International student athletes: All international student athletes will be automatically enrolled in and charged for the Student Health Insurance Plan and are not eligible to submit a waiver.

Please note that you are required to complete a new waiver form each academic year while you attend Bryant University. In addtion to completing the waiver, please provide a copy of the front and back of your insurance card to Health Services as proof of health insurance.

Qualifying Event Enrollment Process

Students may qualify for a special enrollment period if they incur an involuntary loss of other coverage.
