The College of New Jersey
STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does it take for my waiver to process?
The waiver is fully processed in 2 business days. One business day for the waiver to be processed in UHP’s system and one additional day for it to be reflected on your PAWS account at TCNJ.

Will the charge come off of my bill?
The TCNJ bill is a PDF and does not update. You can see the removal of the insurance charge on PAWS under ‘Account Activity’ in 48 hours.

How do I know what to pay to TCNJ?
If you have waived the health insurance, you may pay the TCNJ bill minus the insurance charge if it appears on the bill. When paying the bill online using TCNJ’s Cashnet portal to make a one-time payment, you can change any prepopulated amount and enter in the amount you want to pay.

I already entered in my health insurance info, why do I keep getting notifications?
Please note that some students are required to report their health insurance when living on campus or when participating in extra curricular activities/sports. This process is separate from the TCNJ SHIP process and managed by our Health Services office. If the notification is about not taking action on your student health insurance, please follow the directions to waive or enroll on the UHP site or you will continue to get these notifications.

Why am I unable to get an insurance ID card/why is Aetna unable to identify me as a member?
If you are being billed for the insurance charge, you should take action by waiving or enrolling. If it is your intention to take the school insurance, you should actively enroll so that you can get your benefits as soon as possible. Otherwise, you will not be auto-enrolled until AFTER the waiver deadline.

What happens if I take no action?
You will be automatically enrolled into the Aetna insurance shortly after the waiver deadline. Please reach out to us at info@univhealthplans.com as soon as possible if you have missed the waiver deadline and already have your own insurance. Please note that submitting a late waiver appeal is not a guarantee that it will be accepted, as it is at our discretion to allow a late waiver appeal.

I just waived the insurance charge, but I already paid for it, what now?
TCNJ will automatically refund any overpayments to the student once the charge is removed on PAWS. Please note this process can take 2-3 weeks. If you have not signed up for Refund Direct Deposit in PAWS, please do so before the refund is generated so you may have the refund deposited into your bank account. If you would like a paper check, please be sure your home address is up to date in PAWS. If you would prefer TCNJ hold the funds for future charges, please email your request to Student Accounts at stuaccts@tcnj.edu.
