2024-2025 Academic Year

Students on OPT must maintain active health insurance while in the U.S. and remain eligible for the IU international student insurance plan for up to three years after graduation. 

Students on OPT may enroll themselves and their eligible dependents in coverage semester-by-semester. Eligible dependents include the student's legal spouse and unmarried children under age 26. 

Students must maintain continuous coverage while on OPT. If the student was not enrolled in the IU student insurance plan during the prior semester, they must submit the qualifying event enrollment form and document the loss of other compliant coverage to be eligible for the IU student insurance plan.
