IMPORTANT REMINDERS

It is important to confirm your plan provides coverage for emergency and non-emergency care including but not limited to preventive/routine care, specialists such as mental health care clinicians, OB/GYN providers, dermatologists, physical therapists, etc. in the Wellesley College area. Not all plans provide adequate coverage. Please review the below important reminders prior to making a decision about your health insurance.

  • Out of state/out of area HMO, EPO and Medicaid plans generally have a limited network of providers and do not provide coverage for non-emergency care in the local area surrounding Wellesley College. Emergency coverage only is not sufficient. Kaiser and Anthem BCBS are popular out of area plans that do not provide coverage in Massachusetts. If you have Kaiser or Anthem BCBS you will be required to provide policy documentation confirming your plan provides non-emergency care in Massachusetts, specifically the Wellesley College area in order to submit your waiver form.
     
  • Travel medical insurance plans and international insurance plans are not comparable to the Wellesley College student health insurance plan. Waiver forms submitted with these types of plans will not be accepted.
     
  • Consider the out of pocket costs if you are covered by a high deductible health plan. These types of plans can create a financial barrier to accessing care or result in high out of pocket costs.
     
  • On the Wellesley College campus, Health Services are provided by Newton Wellesley Medical Group, a member of the MassGeneral Brigham system. If your insurance does not include Newton Wellesley or MassGeneral Brigham as an in-network provider, you will be billed and held responsible for all or part of the cost of the services provided at Health Services. Before waiving, please contact your insurance company’s member services department and/or Health Services provided by Newton Wellesley Medical Group at (781) 283-2810 to understand whether and to what extent your insurance provides coverage for Health Services provided on the Wellesley College campus.
