Waiver and Enrollment Process

All students who meet the eligibility requirement are eligible to enroll and are required by Lehigh University to have Health Insurance. Even if you are covered under another plan, read the information carefully. Many commercial plans have high deductibles and coinsurance provisions not found in the student plan. You will also need to make certain that you are eligible for the coverage that you currently have through August 14, 2025.

Important information for varsity athletes: The Lehigh Student Health Insurance Plan has a limited benefit of $2,000.00 for intercollegiate sports injuries and is NOT intended to cover the full range of costs associated with intercollegiate sports injuries.

If your personal insurance has limited out of area benefits OR significant referral restrictions (HMO or Medicaid), we urge you to seriously consider taking the school sponsored plan. Many insurance plans will only pay for treatment outside the Network area when it is an emergency and will not pay for treatment from doctors out of the area without prior permission. We suggest you check with your insurer to see how they handle out of area claims.

If you do not plan to attend Lehigh for Spring 2025 and you would like to request Fall Only coverage, contact Lehigh's Bursars Office at bursar@lehigh.edu before the deadline of September 6, 2024 to request Fall Only coverage. Fall Only coverage terminates at the end of December 31, 2024, and reduces the charge to $962. You will be required to pay the insurance premium to Lehigh's Bursars Office prior to receiving access to the fall only enrollment form.

All Lehigh International Students on an F-1 or J-1 Visa are not permitted to drop coverage by submitting a waiver form unless you have parents or a spouse/domestic partner living and/or working in the U.S. and are covered under a family plan that's ACA-compliant, you are sponsored to study at Lehigh by your home country or U.S. government that provides you with an insurance plan, or you have dependents at Lehigh and have a private family insurance plan that's ACA-compliant. International students should contact Lehigh’s Office of International Students & Scholars (610) 758-4859 to verify if you qualify for a waiver. In order to waive or confirm enrollment in the University sponsored plan, you must follow the instructions below:

  1. Click on the Waiver Form or Enrollment Form link on the left.
  2. When you reach the form, complete all required information. If required information is missing, your form will NOT be submitted.  (NOTE: You will need the student’s LIN to waive coverage or confirm enrollment.)
  3. Submit the form. If you’ve successfully submitted your form, you’ll immediately see a confirmation page (including a confirmation number).  If you do not receive this message, make the noted corrections and resubmit until you receive a message similar to what is shown below. Save the confirmation page and/or the email copy for your proof of submission.
  4. An email copy of the confirmation will be sent to the email address shown on the form. Save this message as proof of your submission.

Lehigh University Student Health & Wellness Center

The Lehigh University Student Health & Wellness Center provides primary medical care for students. Services include, but are not limited to, treatment of routine illnesses and injuries, gynecological care, and immunizations.

During the academic year, the Health & Wellness Center is open from 8:15 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Thursday and 9:15 AM to 4:00 PM Friday. During semester breaks and summers, hours are reduced.

Many illnesses and injuries may require services outside the Health and Wellness Center, such as x-rays, lab work, prescription drugs, and costly hospital inpatient stays. For these reasons, the University requires that all undergraduate students be covered by adequate medical insurance or enroll in the University sponsored plan.
